Writer's Wanted
"Me and Marilyn Monroe" rehearsed reading at the Unity Theatre on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 November 2010.
‘Only me and Marilyn Monroe get looked at every time we walk into a room' a disabled poet once remarked. Inspired by this, DaDaFest International 2010 would like to invite talented and exciting up-and-coming Deaf and Disabled writers in the UK to turn their own unwavering gaze upon the world around them and send us their new scripts to be part of a series of rehearsed readings at this year's Festival. We will be working at the Unity Theatre with a diverse group of actors on two scripts a day to be performed in a rehearsed read through in the evening.
On Tuesday night the evening will be topped off by a reading of a new play from America, "Krankenhaus Blues", by Sam Forman.
Are you a disabled or deaf writer who has a play that has never been performed in the UK and would like to have it read as part of DaDaFest in a top Liverpool theatre venue? Then please send a CV and some information about your work and the script to DaDaFest international Artistic Director Garry Robson via details below. All the work received will then go through a selection process and the final plays chosen will be judged by a panel who will decided on the plays to be read over the two evenings. We are unable to pay any fees for the work, but reasonable expenses will be paid to the writers. The writer will be expected to attend the rehearsals on either 22 or 23 November and the readings performances in the evenings.
The closing date for all entries is 31 August 2010. We will contact all applicants by the end of September to let them know if they are successful in their application. Exotic Birds Heading to Telford
Birdwatchers of Telford are in for a treat as an exotic flock of birds are currently making their way to the town. A group of artists have used sophisticated mapping techniques to predict that this rare species of birds, known as ‘The Impossible Ones', will be making a unique landing at All Saints Church, Grange Avenue, Stirchley, on Saturday 24 July from 12 - 3pm.
The visit of the birds coincides with an art event organised at the venue by Telford based Arty Party, an independent company of learning disabled artists. A specially convened welcoming committee is planning to herald the arrival of the birds at exactly12.30pm. This local appearance is the birds' first before they fly off to their next scheduled stopover in Northamptonshire in September.
The event will feature art work produced through Arty Party's flagship ‘Work+Play visual art initiative' together with a special performance by the company's newly formed ‘Performance Group'. A free-range lunch and refreshments will be provided. For more information visit www.artypartytelford.org
